The Brandywine Hundred

The Brandywine Hundred is a geographical area that is bounded by the Brandywine River on the west, the Delaware/Pennsylvania state line on the north, the Delaware River on the east, and by the city of Wilmington to the south.  Simply put, if you're north of the city of Wilmington, and you're still in Delaware, you're in the Brandywine Hundred.

Local areas in the Brandywine Hundred include: Wilmington (north of the city), Penny Hill, Talleyville, and Claymont.

Overview

The North Wilmington/Brandywine Hundred area is a great place to call home.  In addition to the fact that Delaware has no sales tax (except for cars and homes), North Wilmington is ideally situated close to Philadelphia (30 minutes), including the Philadelphia Airport, and within an easy drive of Baltimore (70 minutes).  The Delaware beaches are less than 2 hours away as are the Pocono Mountain ski areas in Pennsylvania.

Colleges/Universities

Local colleges and universities include The University of Delaware, Wilmington College, Widener Law School, Goldey Beacom College, and Delaware Technical and Community College.

Other nearby Colleges and Universities in Pennsylvania include Delaware County Community College, Penn State Media Campus, West Chester University, and Widener University.

Sports

North Wilmington is close to all of Philadelphia's major stadiums and sports teams including the Eagles, 76ers, Flyers, and 2008 World Champion Phillies.  For those who like minor league baseball, not only does Wilmington have its own team, The Blue Rocks, but the Camden (New Jersey) River Sharks are nearby as well.

NASCAR fans will enjoy going to Dover International Speedway twice each season for the car races.

Malls/Shopping

Concord Mall is conveniently located on Route 202 (Concord Pike), one of the main thoroughfares in North Wilmington.  The mall contains over 85 stores including Sears, Boscovs, Strawbridges, The Disney Store, and many others.  Just down the street is the Brandywine Town Center, a former 100 acre horse racing track, which has been converted into a huge shopping area.  Stores in the BTC include Target, Dicks Sporting Goods, Lowe's, Regal Cinema (16 screens), and Old Navy.  A short drive down I-95 is the Christiana Mall which has over 120 stores such as JC Penney, Abercrombie & Fitch, Macy's, and Costco.
